Project Background
This stretch of Shirlington Road was nominated by a member of the public for consideration by the Neighborhood Complete Streets program and advanced to public engagement by the Neighborhood Complete Streets Commission due to:
- Narrow and obstructed sidewalks on both sides of the street
- Crash history
- Vehicle volume and speed
- Proximity to schools and parks and location in a Vision Zero Equity Emphasis Area
Project Goals
- Provide an accessible and unobstructed sidewalk to provide a safe and comfortable pedestrian route.
- Utilize the existing, County-owned right of way while balancing priorities to achieve a complete street for all who travel on Shirlington Road.
