Overview of Project

The Iowa DOT is planning to replace the I-80 bridges over U.S. 63 due to the age and condition of the existing bridges. The project will be completed over 3 years, beginning in 2029. In the first year, the new eastbound bridge will be constructed to the south of the existing bridge. In the second year, traffic will be moved onto the new bridge and the westbound traffic will move onto the old eastbound bridge. This will allow the westbound bridge to be demolished and rebuilt in place. In the final year, the median will be constructed. The construction is being staged to keep I-80 and U.S. 63 open to traffic, although temporary and overnight closures may occur at times.
