Artists Needed! Hoover Townes Sculpture
The Urban Design Center is excited to announce an opportunity for local artists to work with the West Sugar Creek community on a new placemaking project. The city is requesting qualifications from artists to design one large sculpture for a new public space in the corridor.
As part of the Corridors of Opportunity program, the City of Charlotte bought the former Economy Inn hotel site to be developed into affordable for-sale residential units, intended to increase long-term affordability and ownership for lower income households. Accompanying the new housing development will be a shared space featuring public art and placemaking elements. The corner of Reagan Drive and Tom Hunter Road will be transformed into a new public space, featuring a large central sculpture.
