Collins Park Improvements
Collins Park Improvements
Collins Park is an existing 3.7-acre Mecklenburg County Park located at 4524 Collingwood Drive, Charlotte, NC 28209. The park includes a multipurpose field, tennis courts, a playground, and picnic shelter.
This Improvement project will add new pickleball courts to meet demand for the amenity across the Park and Recreation system. The scope of this project may also include repairs/expansion of existing paved trails, wayfinding, and/or accessibility improvements. Design began in Spring 2025.

Collins Park Improvements Meeting
Please join us at the Collins Park Shelter Saturday, December 6 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM to discuss two concepts for future improvements to Collins Park.
Please join Park and Recreation to discuss two concepts for future improvements to Collins Park. Meeting details are below. If you are unable to join or prefer to provide feedback online, please scroll down to vote on your preferred concept. You can also download the concepts at the bottom of the page.
Concept #1
This concept adds pickleball in the existing field space, as close to the edge of the existing path as possible without having to construct a retaining wall. The walking path would be realigned around the new pickleball, but otherwise the paths in the park would remain where they are currently. The shelter would be replaced in it's current location, although our new standard shelters are larger than what currently exists in the park. The concept requires the removal of some trees (in red), but fewer than in Concept #2. Drainage would be improved in areas where issues currently exist today - paying special attention to the existing tennis courts, and new trees would be planted. The existing backstop would be relocated to the opposite side of the field. New benches and trash cans would be provided, and the Little Free Library would be relocated slightly.
Concept #2
This concept adds pickleball in the existing field space, as close to the edge of the existing path as possible without having to construct a retaining wall. The walking path would be realigned around the new pickleball. The shelter would move across the path from where it is currently located for better visibility, which would require the removal of a stand of birch trees (shown in red). This concept is more impactful to the trees than Concept #1. The old shelter pad would be repurposed as a seating and grill area. The entry path off Collingwood Drive would be realigned as well as the path between the new shelter and old shelter pad. The path between the two play areas would be removed. Drainage would be improved in areas where issues currently exist today - paying particular attention to the existing tennis court, and new trees would be planted. The existing backstop would be relocated to the opposite side of the field. New benches and trash cans would be provided, and the Little Free Library would be relocated slightly.
