Reading Road (US 42) Road Diet
ODOT and City of Reading Seek Public Comment
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), in consultation with the City of Reading, is proposing a road diet and various safety improvements to reduce speeding and increase pedestrian safety along Reading Road (US 42) within the city limits of Reading. This $3.9 million dollar project is being completely funded by ODOT as part of its "Target Speed Pilot Program" to improve pedestrians and vehicular safety. Construction is expected to begin in the Summer of 2027 and be completed Fall/Winter 2027. Please take this time to review more details about the proposed safety improvements and take the opportunity to ask us questions or provide feedback on the project. The comment period for this project will end Wednesday February 11, 2026.
City of Reading Community Council and ODOT will be hosting a meeting where there will be a discussion of the proposed improvements. A brief description of the project will be provided but this is more of an opportunity for people to ask questions in person. Below are the details of the meeting.

Project Overview
ODOT is proposing a traffic calming project along route US 42, locally named Reading Road, within the city corporation limits of the City of Reading (see above image). Within the project limits there will be a reduction in the number of travel lanes, often referred to as a road diet. Additional safety improvements include:
- Curb extensions
- Harden centerline with delineators
- Raised crosswalks
- Raised intersection
- Pedestrian refuge islands
- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB)
- High-visibility crosswalk markings
The public comment period will end on Wednesday February 11, 2026.
