Cherry Park Improvements
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is working to make improvements to Cherry Park, an existing 2 acre park located at 1509 Baxter Street in Charlotte. The park currently has a full-court basketball court, multi-purpose field, softball field, and playground.
Through a $250,000 developer contribution to the City of Charlotte, for the specific purpose of park investment and/or neighborhood traffic calming, the City of Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) in partnership with the Mecklenburg County Department of Park and Recreation have identified improvements for the Cherry Park and a neighborhood traffic calming project.
Input from community meetings held in December 2022 and February 2023 and an on-line survey was used to gain community feedback and preference for potential park improvements and a specific traffic calming project.
The selected improvements based on this community input are illustrated on the attached exhibits, and construction is anticipated to begin in spring/summer 2024.
The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County thank all who have participated in this process.
The City of Charlotte has transferred the funds to Mecklenburg County for improving Cherry Park. At this time, staff is beginning to finalize plans and order equipment. Construction is expected to start Spring 2024 and should be complete Summer 2024.
