Cherry Park Improvements
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is working to make improvements to Cherry Park, an existing 2 acre park located at 1509 Baxter Street in Charlotte. The park currently has a full-court basketball court, multi-purpose field, softball field, and playground.
Through a $250,000 developer contribution to the City of Charlotte (for the specific purpose of park investment and neighborhood traffic calming), the City of Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) in partnership with the Mecklenburg County Department of Park and Recreation want to receive community input on potential improvements to the Cherry Neighborhood Park and to neighborhood traffic calming. We are asking residents to help prioritize needs for Cherry Park so we can maximize the benefit this funding will provide.
Playground
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation evaluates playgrounds on a regular basis. The playground at Cherry Park is in need of replacement in the next 2-3 years.
Improve Existing Amenities
Other existing park amenities are in need of improvement or replacement. Those amenities include the basketball court, the ballfield, park trails/paths, park furnishings, and park wayfinding/signs.
Potential New Amenities
Any remaining funding will be used to add new park amenities to Cherry Park. Potential new amenities will need to be appropriate for a smaller, local park and accommodate needs of neighborhood residents.
