Passive Recreation Lands Subcommittee
Passive Recreation Lands Subcommittee
In response to the overwhelming support for the 2022 Open Space Bonds, the Passive Recreation Lands Subcommittee was formed in 2023 to oversee the allocation of funds for Passive Recreation Lands projects. Subcommittee members are made up of current members of the Land Conservation Advisory Board and the Parks, Greenways, and Recreation Advisory Board. This joint subcommittee has expertise in land conservation, recreation, procurement, and development aspects unique to passive recreation lands.
As part of its mission, the Passive Recreation Lands Subcommittee will:
- Develop a strong, clear message about the County’s passive recreation projects, offerings, and development timelines.
- Recommend strategic priorities for capital investments and improvements.
- Review and approve proposed projects slated to receive GO Bond funding.
- Review and provide feedback concerning funding strategies and priorities of passive recreation lands development.
- Work in partnership with affinity groups—supportive nonprofits, parent organizations, schools, etc.—to advocate for and promote passive recreation in Buncombe County.
