Patapsco Regional Greenway: Guinness to Southwest Area Park (Phase 2)
Patapsco Regional Greenway: Guinness to Southwest Area Park (Phase 2)
In 2017, the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) approved a plan for the Patapsco Regional Greenway (PRG). The PRG will be a 40-mile trail running through the Patapsco Valley from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor to Sykesville in Carroll County. The PRG will be used by bicyclists, walkers, runners and (in some places) wheelchair users. Over 12 miles of the greenway have been already been completed.
Now, we want to hear from you about the Guinness to Southwest Area Park segment, which will add another 5.5 miles to the greenway. We listened to your input on where the trail should go and now we’d like you to help us with what kinds of things would make a great trail.
This project is a partnership between the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC), the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) and Baltimore County. Your feedback will help us choose where the trail will go and what it will look like.
More information about the comment period, public meeting and how to provide comments are on the tabs below. Also, explore this StoryMap for more about the project and a virtual guided tour.
About the PRG: Guinness to Southwest Area Park Project
This part of the PRG runs about 5.5 miles from Guinness Open Gate Brewery to Southwest Area Park in Baltimore County. We will design the trail to be safe and comfortable for pedestrians and bicyclists. Trail options include asphalt/concrete pathways, crushed compacted stone pathways and a bicycle boulevard.
Working with Baltimore County, BMC released a study of four potential routes for the segment for public comment in March 2023. A review of the 31 comments on that study found positive support for the trail. This input helped us choose what is called the “Selected Alignment” for the trail. Now, you have a chance to share your feedback on the Selected Alignment. Your feedback will help us complete a 30 percent design plan for this part of the trail.
A public meeting was held on Wednesday, November 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Arbutus Branch, Baltimore County Public Library (855 Sulphur Spring Rd, Arbutus, MD 21227). View a Recorded Presentation (YouTube) | View presentation (pdf)
Comments will be welcome from October 18 through December 5, 2023. The public can share comments at the public meeting, by text, via voicemail, on the project webpage, and the survey and interactive map on the project StoryMap.
