HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACTS CLARK COUNTY

The number of days over 115°F could increase by 10 times by the end of the century, significantly impacting workers and leading to increased costs to operate.  

Climate change not only increases instance of extreme heat: it also causes less frequent, more intense storms, increased flood risks, more frequent wildfires, and worsening drought conditions.

Hazards resulting from climate change and result in increased public health risks, poor air quality, loss of biodiversity, and damage to infrastructure and property. 

SUPPORTING CLEAN & RELIABLE ENERGY

There are 46,300+ rooftop solar systems installed in Southern Nevada.

There has been a 147% increase in number of LEED certified buildings in the county in the last ten years.

18.3% of the energy in our grid is renewable, more than tripling since 2005.

From 2005-2015, there was a 7% decrease in total energy used statewide, even while population grew 18%.

FACILITATING CONNECTED & EQUITABLE MOBILITY

There are 550+ miles of bike lanes in Clark County, with plans to expand to over 2,000 miles of bike lanes and walking paths.

Clark County has the largest alternative fuel vehicle fleet in the state. As of 2020, over half of county vehicles were hybrids, EVs, or operate on biodiesel. 

There were 6,000 annual EV registrations in 2019 in Clark County, a 68% increase in a single year.

DIVERTING AND REDUCING WASTE

Clark County is home to the largest residential recycling facility in the country.

In 2019, Clark County diverted 19.7% of waste to recycling and composting, compared to just 9% in 2009.
