Welcome to the Walker Branch/Hoover Creek Greenway public input webpage.
Walker Branch & Hoover Creek Greenway will extend from Sledge Road to South Tryon Street (Hwy. 49) and existing Hoover Creek Greenway to Rivergate Parkway, closing the gaps between existing greenway sections. This greenway project is divided into two parts with existing Walker Branch Greenway bisecting the two segments. This project will extend the existing Walker Branch Greenway, from South Tryon Street to Smith Road by about a mile and a half. Together, visitors will have access to over two miles of greenway trails that will connect to commercial and residential land uses.

Project Updates
PROJECT UPDATES
Fall 2025 - Project Status
Greenway construction continues with grading/compaction, base course install, and paving efforts associated with on grade trails. Bridge and boardwalk structures are being finalized with installation of complementary safety measures.
**Note: Discovery of rock during excavation for a low water crossing dictated the necessity for rock hammering and removal. Loud noises are a byproduct and will be consistent until sufficient rock is removed. Hammering is anticipated to end no later than Friday, 9/19.
Summer 2025 - Project Status
Bridge structure at Hoover Creek has been set. Construction ongoing on with boardwalk installation, bridge rehabilitation and stormwater improvements.
Spring 2025 - Project Status
Active construction for the Walker Branch greenway segment has commenced. Bridge work is ongoing at the Hoover Creek segment.
Early 2025 - Project Status
Construction is ongoing at the Hoover Creek greenway segment with continuation of bridge related activities.
Fall/Winter 2024 - Project Status
Greenway construction is ongoing with concentrated efforts along the Hoover Creek segment of the project. Active construction for the Walker Branch segment, beyond initial clearing and grubbing, to start by Early 2025.
