The MPO incorporates access, equity, and multiple modes of transportation in project priorities.

As part of the organization's vision for the region, the MPO aims to increase housing and transportation choices, provide more multimodal options (including safe pedestrian and bicycle facilities), and preserve corridors for future transit to connect urban centers.

The MPO plans for people of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities by prioritizing trails and an active transportation network. These plans are discussed in Chapter 8 of the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). Four primary documents guide the way that the LRTP addressed the topics of equity and livability. These include

  • The Regional Accessibility Analysis (2018)
  • Limited English Proficiency Plan (2017)
  • The Active Transportation Plan (2019)
  • Sarasota County and Manatee County Transit Development Plans

Thinking of biking to the beach? Or walking to the grocery store? The Sarasota / Manatee trail system makes it a breeze. The MPO has studied several possible extensions to the trail network.

The MPO plans for people of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities by prioritizing trails and an active transportation network. The Active Transportation Plan (ATP) Vision Network is one of the MPO's ways of implementing that vision.

The ATP Vision Plan creates trail connectors to bridge the east and west corridors of the region's SunTrail system.

Accessibility measures the number of destinations reachable in a given travel time. This map shows the density of accessible jobs given a 30 minute walk. Additional measures of accessibility can be found in Chapter 8 of the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), located on mympo.org/p/plans.

Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Darker shades correspond to areas with greater EJ needs.
