As part of an initiative to honor that legacy, a group of artists has been invited to compete in designing a public art memorial for the site — a permanent tribute that reflects the true human experience of Pruitt-Igoe, beyond the headlines and the demolition footage. To ensure that memorial speaks authentically to those whose lives were shaped by this place, we are asking former residents to share their memories, perspectives, and hopes for how Pruitt-Igoe should be remembered. Your responses will be shared directly with the competing artists, guiding their creative visions and helping ensure that this memorial belongs first and foremost to the community it seeks to honor.
