Study Segment 2- Dickens Road from Bethlehem Road to Staples Mill Road

Question title

The current roadway is primarily a 2 lane, undivided roadway and crosses Interstate 64. There is a significant sidewalk gap connecting towards Staples Mill Road. Two alternatives are being considered:

Alternative 2A: On-Street Directional Bicycle Lanes along Dickens Road and sidewalk to Staples Mill Road

- Restripe Dickens Road to a 3-Lane Roadway with buffered bicycle lanes and center turn lane from Bethlehem Road to Wendover Road.

- Continue on-street bike lanes from Manor Road to Staples Mill Road.

- Construct a sidewalk on the south side of the roadway to eliminate sidewalk gaps.

- Construct a miniature roundabout at Dickens Road and Manor Road.

Study Segment 3- Staples Mill Road from Dickens Road to Dumbarton Road

Question title

The current roadway is a 6-Lane divided roadway with sidewalk on both sides of the road. There are currently no bicycle facilities along Staples Mill Road. Improvements include:

- Construct a 10 ft. wide Shared Use Path on the east side of Staples Mill Road with an 8 ft. wide planted buffer between the path and the roadway.

- Remove the left turn lane on eastbound Staples Mill Road at the commercial entrance. (Turning vehicles should consider the miniature roundabout at Manor Road to access the entrance from Dickens Road.)

Two concepts are being considered for the intersection of Dickens Road and Staples Mill Road with improvements along the south side of Dickens Road:

- Alternative 3A - On-street bicycle lanes and a separated bicycle intersection crossing for pedestrians with sidewalk along Dickens Road.

- Alternative 3B - Off-street shared use path with a combined bicycle and pedestrian crossing.
