Camp Ernst Road Improvements
Camp Ernst Road, from Pleasant Valley to Hathaway Road, is a busy road that carries over 8,000 vehicles every day. These include our neighbors heading home from work, teens driving to school, families heading to Central Park for a youth sports game and so many others. The current two lane highway poses safety issues and can be congested at times. Boone County has several projects planned to protect your safety and help get you where you want to go. KEY PROJECT UPDATES (Updated 10/29/26)
Work is underway to improve safety and traffic flow on Camp Ernst. Key updates include:
Corridor Reconstruction
Planning work continues for the Corridor Reconstruction. This important step helps the engineering firm identify viable design concepts. Current and upcoming work includes:
- Environmental fieldwork. Ecologists currently are walking the corridor to study existing streams, wetlands and the soil. Work will be observation-based, and workers will gather limited soil samples using hand tools. Ecologists will primarily be in right-of-ways, but may need limited access to private property. They will contact property owners directly before surveying. Please note that the need to survey your property does not mean that your property will be impacted by construction.
- Drone photography. The project team will be utilizing a drone to see what the road looks like right now, which will be used to plan and design safety improvements.
- Geotechnical drilling. A contractor will begin staging equipment in early November for geotechnical drilling. This work involves using specialized equipment to collect soil and rock samples from below the ground. Work will take place primarily on public property near the existing bridge over Gunpowder Creek, although limited access to private property may be needed. The County will work directly with impacted residents. More information about the location and timing of this work will be shared as details are finalized.
An Open House will be scheduled in early 2027 for residents and stakeholders to review potential designs and provide feedback. The first Open House, held in June 2026, provided initial insight on residents' priorities and recommendations. (View online survey results.)
Roundabout Construction
- Major construction on the roundabout at Camp Ernst and Longbranch is complete.
- Crews will be onsite during final concrete work, site restoration and striping.
- Please slow down and use caution when traveling through the roundabout.
