Urban Growth Boundary Expansion
Each city in Oregon is surrounded by an urban growth boundary (UGB), a plan to designate where the city will grow over 20 years. This growth can occur with new houses, industrial facilities, businesses, or public facilities such as parks and utilities. Restrictions in areas outside of a UGB protect farm and forest resource land and prohibit urban development. Generally speaking, it’s where the city ends and the farms and forests begin. Canby anticipates a UGB expansion to support the city’s 20-year need for jobs and housing. The UGB expansion process includes several steps:
- Establishing the land need
- Identifying the UGB expansion study area
- Analyzing potential UGB expansion locations
- Preparing the UGB expansion recommendation
