Residential Permit Parking survey
Residential Permit Parking survey
Austin's Residential Permit Parking (RPP) program began in 1997 as a pilot to ease congestion from non-resident vehicles, particularly university students parking long-term in neighborhoods. Over time, the program expanded as more neighborhoods sought similar relief, reflecting growing concerns over limited residential parking availability.
In November 2023, Austin eliminated minimum parking requirements for new developments, aiming to lower housing costs and encourage less car-dependent urban growth. While this policy supports key policy goals of affordability and sustainability, it could also increase demand for on-street parking in certain areas.
The City of Austin is evaluating its RPP program to improve accessibility, fairness, and efficiency. We are seeking your initial feedback as it is valuable in shaping draft regulatory changes to the program ahead of posting a draft set of rules for the program in May. You will be able to provide thoughts and comments on the rules at that time as well. This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Thank you for your time!
