Project Summary

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is proposing the relocation of U.S. Route 30 between Trump Avenue and SR 44 in the city of Canton, the village of East Canton, Canton Township, and Osnaburg Township in Stark County.

The purpose of this project is to improve safety and efficiency of U.S. 30 traffic moving through East Canton and better link the eastern part of Stark County.

The newly relocated U.S. 30 will be a four-lane limited access freeway about three miles long with two lanes in each direction and a 60-foot grass median.

The partial interchange at Trump Ave. will be completed and include a new eastbound on-ramp from Trump Ave. and a new westbound off-ramp to Trump Ave.

The proposed project will close Pekin Drive (TR 173) and Osnaburg Street (TR 127A) to through traffic at U.S. 30. Cul-de-sacs built on each side of relocated U.S. 30 at Pekin Dr. and on the south side of U.S. 30 at Osnaburg St. to provide property access. The project will also close the driveway to the former Stark Ceramics on Church Street.

New bridges will be constructed over the existing Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad line and Berger Road (TR 169), over existing U.S. 30/SR 44 and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad line near Osnaburg Street and on Wood Avenue (TR 151) over relocated U.S. 30.

The existing U.S.30 and SR 44 intersection will be replaced with a roundabout. A new connector road north of the roundabout will connect to a partial interchange to be constructed as part of this project at the east end of relocated U.S. 30.  Only the ramps on the west side of the new partial interchange will be constructed as part of this project. The new U.S. 30 mainline bridges over the connector road will be built as part of a future project.

Access to Cindell Street will be maintained via a new connector road to be built east of the U.S.30/SR 44 intersection.

Existing Berger Road, Wood Avenue, and SR 44 will be updated to current roadway design standards near the relocated U.S. 30.

In addition, acid mine drainage treatment basins will be built near Pekin Drive and Wood Avenue as the relocated U.S. 30 will cross several areas containing former underground mines. The first construction activity will be grout injection to fill mine voids.
