Natural Surface Trails Study Questionnaire
Natural Surface Trails Study Questionnaire
Welcome to Arlington County's Natural Surface Trails Study questionnaire! This study is focused on the County's natural surface trails; our unpaved, recreational trails in parks like Donaldson Run and Glencarlyn.
Through this work, we aim to better understand the condition, use, and environmental sustainability of our trail system so we can improve and enhance it. We've completed our data collection and analysis presented in the linked report. The report contains our consultant’s high-level, technical recommendations for each trail segment. These are only the preliminary analysis from our technical experts, not final recommendations on how to improve the trail system. The next step is to hear from you how you are using the trails, what type of trail experiences you're looking for, and how we can improve things so we can take this technical analysis and find solutions that work for our community.
Please review the video and study materials on this page, and share your experiences and suggestions through our feedback form. Your involvement is crucial to the sustainable management of these trails and, along with our trail assessment data, will guide us in addressing challenges, identifying improvements, and realizing our community's vision for our natural surface trails. Provide your feedback by February 22, 2024.
Don't forget to stay updated on the Study progress and engagement opportunities by signing up for updates on Arlington's Natural Surface Trails Study.
Thank you for helping us enhance Arlington's natural surface trails.
Natural surface trails are trails made by clearing and grading the native soil, with no added surfacing material. Examples of natural surface trails can be found in Arlington County at Glencarlyn Park, Donaldson Run Trail, and the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
Arlington County has over 20 miles of natural surface trails, but it can be challenging to ensure trail sustainability where trails can be easily maintained without harming the environment around them.
Please watch the video below to learn more about Arlington's natural surface trails and some of the key challenges that require action to address.
