Oak Farms Area Transportation Corridors Study

The City of Dallas and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) conducted a joint transportation study focused on the area surrounding the former Oak Farms Dairy site in North Oak Cliff and nearby communities within the City of Dallas and Dallas County. The purpose of the study was to evaluate existing traffic operations, identify potential transportation improvements, and develop multimodal strategies to enhance safety, mobility, and connectivity throughout the area.

This study was conducted in two parts. The City of Dallas Transportation and Public Works Department analyzed key corridors to prioritize multimodal infrastructure, assessed the feasibility of extending the DART Streetcar system in the Oak Farms area, and identified rehabilitation projects to improve pedestrian and cyclist access to the surrounding street grid.

NCTCOG’s portion of the study focused on the Houston Street and Jefferson Street Viaducts, exploring a range of configuration options for bicycle, pedestrian, transit, and vehicular travel. This included evaluating opportunities to enhance regional connectivity and improve the bridges’ role in accommodating future transportation demands.

The study area included a region roughly bounded by Beckley Avenue, Zang Boulevard, West 12th Street, East Clarendon Drive, the Trinity River, Cadiz Street, Lamar Street, and West Commerce Street.
