Feedback on City's Redevelopment Plan for Red River and East 12th Streets
The former HealthSouth hospital site is one of the last City of Austin-owned downtown properties designated for redevelopment. The site consists of two parcels: 1215 Red River Street and 606 East 12th Street. Together the sites sum to 1.73 acres of land near Interstate Highway 35, the State Capitol, the downtown medical campus, and the University of Texas at Austin. The northeast district of downtown Austin blends iconic live music clubs, world-class parks and open spaces, and respected healthcare institutions.
Tell the City what you'd like to see on the site's redevelopment!
Why this matters:
At the Austin City Council meeting on July 20, 2023, Council reaffirmed its commitment to create affordable housing on or near the site and to lease—not sell—the property. City staff is directed to present a comprehensive report with recommendations on the next steps to Council’s Housing and Planning Committee on September 6, 2023.
