Parking Lot Greening Guidebook - Stakeholder Survey

Parking Lot Greening Guidebook - Stakeholder Survey

The City of Sacramento is developing a Parking Lot Greening Guidebook to help property owners, businesses, designers, and community partners increase tree shade in existing parking lots and realize the associated health, environmental, and community benefits. Your experience and perspective will help the City understand what is needed to make parking lot greening practical, desirable, and successful.

About You

Parking Lot Greening Guidebook

The City of Sacramento is developing a Parking Lot Greening Guidebook to help property owners, businesses, designers, and community partners add more tree shade in existing parking lots. Adding trees brings health, environmental, and community benefits. "Greening" our parking lots means turning hot, plain asphalt into more welcoming, eco-friendly spaces. This can be done by adding shade trees, native plants, and green stormwater systems to cool the air and filter rainwater. Greening parking lots can help reduce extreme heat, improve air quality, and make walking to and from cars more comfortable.

Sacramento requires new and renovated parking lots to provide 50% tree canopy coverage. However, many older parking lots were built before these rules existed, which means property owner would have to voluntarily make these improvements. The Parking Lot Greening Guidebook will provide practical information on design options, costs and benefits, maintenance, permitting, incentives, and tools to help make these improvements easier to plan and complete.

Why Your Input Matters
