Project Description/Background:
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are planning SH-37 improvements. They will upgrade SH-37 (Main Street) in Tuttle, OK. The project starts near Gregory Road. It will extend east to
the SH-92 (SW 4th Street) intersection. ODOT will widen SH-37. They will also repave the highway. A center turning lane will be added. Sidewalks will be built or updated. These improvements will make the highway safer. They will also help traffic flow better.
Pedestrian access will be improved. Currently, SH-37 is narrow, and the road surface needs repair. Daily traffic is 6,360 vehicles and is anticipated to increase to 7,630 by 2047.
ODOT proposes the following:
- • A new curb-and-gutter section will be built from Gregory Road to 4th Street.
- • Driving lanes will be widened to 12 feet.
- • A 14-foot-wide center turn lane will be added.
- • A center median will be constructed. This will be located from 100 feet west to 100feet east of the railroad crossings.
- • An Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—compliant sidewalk will be built or updated from N Gregory Road to SW 4th Street.
- • Drainage structures will be extended to match the new roadway widths.
SH-37 will stay open during construction. At times, traffic may be reduced to one direction of travel.
Some new right-of-way will be required for this project. No relocations are anticipated.
