SR 1 Low-Stress Bikeway Study
SR 1 Low-Stress Bikeway Study
SR 1 between the Five Points area and Rehoboth Beach has experienced rapid growth in recent years. With that growth has come additional demand for walking and bicycling, as well as safety concerns with accommodating walking and bicycling on a wide, congested highway. This study will identify locations for continuous bikeway routes and periodic crossings that can be used by the majority of the population on both sides of SR 1 between Five Points and Rehoboth Beach and prioritize segments of the bikeway routes for design and construction.
The potential bikeway routes identified in this study are intended to:
Improve actual and perceived safety for people who bike in the vicinity of SR 1.
Provide better access to businesses for people who walk and bike - right now, someone who lives in a neighborhood directly adjacent to the businesses along SR 1 must travel by car to safely access those businesses.
- Reduce traffic by providing viable alternatives to vehicular travel to access destinations along and across SR 1.
