Sustainability Planning Internship
General Scope of Work
Under supervision of the Parks and Athletics Manager, provide responsible professional assistance in investigating and assessing sustainability efforts in the Town of Zebulon. This internship will aide staff in the development of goals and action items to achieve sustainability in a manner consistent with community desire and the Town’s ability to implement.
Essential Functions/Duties
Analyze current sustainability efforts and policies across Town Departments.
Work with stakeholders and the community to get feedback on sustainability goals using the Town’s public engagement tool, Public Input.
Identify themes from engagement.
Propose sustainability goals and action items to staff.
Assist with establishing Zebulon as a Bee City.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of principles, practices and methods of sustainability.
General knowledge of current trends and developments in sustainability.
Ability to deal tactfully with staff, vendors, and the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, employees, vendors, supervisors, participants and other agencies.
Adept in use of computer and web-based programs such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint)
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Education/Experience/Physical Demands/Special Requirements/Additional Information
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate with a four-year degree in Sustainability or related field from an accredited college preferred. Undergraduate students participating in a Sustainability degree program will be considered.
Compensation: $15 Undergraduate Student or $18 Graduate Student
Works Schedule: We expect this internship to average 10 hours a week over 20-26 weeks. We will be flexible with student breaks. This internship will require some on site work; however, there is flexibility for remote work.
