Project Summary

Kilborne Park is an existing 51-acre Mecklenburg County Park located at 2600 Kilborne Drive, Charlotte, NC 28205. The park includes a cricket field, ball field, playgrounds, picnic shelters, a disc golf course, the Kilborne DIY Skate Park, parking, and restrooms.

This Improvement project will:

  1. Add new amenities to support the skate park in collaboration with the Charlotte Skate Foundation.
  2. Add paved bicycle and pedestrian connections to the surrounding neighborhood with a goal of connecting to Arnold Drive and Medallion Drive.
  3. The scope of this project may also include repairs/expansion of existing paved trails, wayfinding, park shelters, and/or improvements to the parking area and restroom.

Proposed Final Design (June 2026)

Based on feedback from neighbors and park users, the design team prioritized:

  • East-west paved trail connectivity
  • Tree canopy preservation
  • Minimizing disc golf impacts
  • Parking expansion
  • New picnic shelter more approximate to the playground and parking
  • Amenities to support the DIY skate park.
  • Natural surface trail connection is proposed to connect to Medallion Drive to minimize potential tree impacts, while still improving connectivity.
  • Park and Recreation's Operations team is also working to improve the existing restroom building.

Construction is projected to begin in late 2026, while skate park contractors will be working on improvements to the skate park in conjunction with the Charlotte Skate Foundation in Summer of 2026.
