Towing in Arlington: Proposed Changes and Public Experience
The County Board is considering changes to the towing ordinance to align with revisions in state law as it relates to towing vehicles off private property.
There will be a public hearing on the ordinance changes on November 16. The County is now asking your opinion about the proposed changes and your experience with towing.

The proposed changes to the towing ordinance are detailed in the chart below:
Changes to the Towing Process
- A tow from a private property during business hours may require a signature from someone at the property.
- The tow operator must provide the contact information of the individual who authorized the tow to police
- The tow operator must release the vehicle in a timely manner and provide a receipt regardless of payment location.
- The tow truck signage must comply with increased size requirements.
- Tow truck drivers must secure the vehicle load before leaving the parking lot.
Increase in Towing Fees
- Increase towing fee from $135 to $150
- Increase the “drop fee” from $10 to $20
Changes Required by State Law
- Have a 48-hour notice for vehicles parked in a multifamily parking lot with expired registration or inspection stickers.
- Add a fuel surcharge fee of $20 to each tow until July 2025.
