Project Update:
Market Street Southern Lane Closure – Gas Installation
UPDATE: Through the end of September 2024, Market St. will be reduced to 1 lane at the S. Alamo intersection. After that, it will return to a two-lane configuration through November 2024.
The two southern lanes on Market St. at the S. Alamo St. intersection will be closed starting as early as Monday, August 12, 2024, and will remain closed for approximately 3-4 months. Two lanes will stay open traveling eastbound on Market. The gas installation work within this closure will be completed in 2 phases. Please see the maps and descriptions provided.
- Phase 1 (approx. 3 weeks) – Workzone in SW corner of Market/Alamo. Pedestrian access closed on west north-south crossing.
- Phase 2 (approx. 2-3 months) - Workzone in SE corner of Market/Alamo. The one-way southbound lane along S. Alamo will shift west. Pedestrian access closed on east north-south crossing.
Phase 1 Gas Installation – SW corner of Market/Alamo
Phase 2 Gas Installation - SE corner of Market/Alamo
Current and planned work:
- Continue excavation and installation of chilled water on S. Alamo between Nueva and Market St.
- CPS Gas installation on the east side of South Alamo, to be preceded by storm drain installation and followed by SAWS water main and sanitary sewer installation.
- South Alamo & Market SE Intersection: This area is being converted for permanent pedestrian and traffic signal improvements, which closes one small traffic lane.
- South Alamo & Cesar Chavez NE Intersection: Drill shaft planned for traffic signal mast arm.
- Arciniega Street continues to be closed for underground utility work.
- Scheduled completion Summer 2025.
Nueva Street & South Alamo - Crosswalk Closure
- The contractor will close the Nueva Street north-south crosswalk on the west side of South Alamo Street from Thursday 8.1.24 until Monday 8.5.24. This closure is necessary to rehabilitate the sanitary sewer along the South Alamo corridor. The contractor will be detouring pedestrians west to the nearest crosswalk at Presa & Nueva intersection. All work is weather permitting. Please see the map provided.
Nueva & South Alamo Intersection
- The Nueva intersection is now open to two-way traffic
South Alamo One-Way Southbound Traffic
- South Alamo has been converted to one single southbound traffic lane from March 18, 2024 thru end of project.
- Pedestrian access on S. Alamo east side from Market to Cesar Chavez, and South Alamo west side from Nueva to La Villita St.
- 4-way Stop at Nueva intersection has been implemented.
- Business access provided.
