In 2014, Grand Rapids voters established the Vital Streets fund. This fund dedicates its focus to improving our street conditions. The Plymouth Avenue project is funded by Vital Streets. Construction is expected to happen in May 2026.
Plymouth Avenue (Alger to Burton)

This is a resurfacing project. Contractors will replace the road and upgrade what is listed below:
- On-street parking will be removed on both sides of the road.
- New bike lanes will be added.
- Two pedestrian crossings will be relocated:
- The crossing at GRCHS exit will move slightly south to align with the existing sidewalk connection between Cambridge and Plymouth.
- The crossing at Menominee will move north to Louise.
- Replace some driveway approaches.
- Plant new street trees.
- Water main replacement
- Storm sewer
- Adjust manholes to be level with the road.
- Pave the road with one or more layers of asphalt.
- Create a left turn lane to enter Grand Rapids Christian High School main entrance.
