Gunston Park Playground Final Concept Engagement
Gunston Park Playground Final Concept Engagement
Share your feedback on the final concept design for the Gunston Park Playground Renovation project. During September and October of this year, the County heard over 100 community members' preferences and considerations between two draft concept designs (review a video of the draft concepts and read the Gunston Park Playground Engagement Summary here). After reviewing community feedback, the County's project team has decided to move forward with Concept #2.
This Parks Maintenance Capital project will include demolition, site work, and design and construction of a new playground and picnic shelter. This project will also address grading and drainage, site circulation, site furnishings, landscaping, and stormwater concerns. No new amenities are planned for this project, which is funded by the Capital Improvement Plan.
The County is seeking your feedback on the final design concept between now and January 31.

What We Heard in Previous Community Feedback
We heard in the first community engagement strong preference for:
- New soft and resilient playground surfaces
- Increased seating opportunities
- More trash receptacles
- Inclusion of slides, swings, climbing structures, and fencing
- Separation between the 2-5 and 5-12 year old age group play areas
Concept #2 was preferred to Concept #1 by the community. Concept #2 featured a larger looping pathway and a greater variety of play structures.
What's Included in the Final Concept
The final concept for the Gunston Playground project combines the community's perspectives with the project scope to meet users' needs. The final concept includes features like:
