Final Engagement: Monroe Park Playground Renovation
Thank you to everyone who participated in previous engagements for the Monroe Park Playground Renovation project. Your input shaped two design concepts and now the final draft design. The project team is excited to share this final updated concept. We invite any final feedback, particularly anything we may have overlooked. Please respond by March 27, 2026.
The project team appreciates the community's continued engagement through this process. The timeline allowed for the County to secure additional federal funding in partnership with the Douglas Park Civic Association, acquire and demolish an adjacent parcel, and expand the park footprint. Community input directly informed enhancements to play opportunities, amenities, and overall park experience.
The Final Draft Design Includes:
Expanded park footprint incorporating the newly acquired parcel
ADA accessible pathways and amenities, including an accessible loop path and inclusive swing
Expanded play range, now with areas for younger (ages 2–5) and older (ages 5–12) children
A new picnic area with seating throughout the park
Expanded open space through removal of the diagonal path that bisected the open space
A bioretention area to collect and treat stormwater runoff
New playground safety surfacing (sand pit removed)
A new information kiosk and updated signage
Once design and permitting are complete, construction is anticipated to begin in or around September 2027. Learn more about the project and sign up for Monroe Park Renovation updates.
