Project Description: This project aims to rehabilitate sections of the Alaska Highway within the Yukon that are deteriorating due to thawing permafrost, jeopardizing safety and road utility. The project will focus on compromised sections of the "Shakwak" segment, approximately 80km between Destruction Bay (km 1680) and the U.S./Canada border (km 1902.5). Three stages of 15 miles each will include resurfacing, sub-grade and culvert repair or replacement, and ditching to return to the road to design-speed operation. Recently awarded a FY24 RAISE grant through the USDOT Office of the Secertary, a modified scope is under development and will be updated through future STIP Amendments.
