Program Overview

The Nashville Department of Transportation invites you to join the Vision Zero Student Ambassador Program where you will learn from transportation professionals about real roadway safety issues.

Students will:

• Meet once a month during lunch period (lunch provided)
• Plan and lead school-wide events
• Work on real-world safety projects (like street design ideas or awareness campaigns)
• Meet guest speakers and city leaders
• Build leadership and advocacy skills
• Boost college applications and resumes

How the Program Works

Vision Zero Student Ambassador Program is a six-month curriculum designed to equip students with essential road safety knowledge and leadership skills. Through regular group sessions, participants learn to model safe behaviors and serve as peer ambassadors within their school communities. The program fosters a culture of safety and advocacy by empowering students to lead awareness campaigns, support school-based projects, and engage their broader communities in promoting safer streets.

NDOT is committed to implementing the Student Ambassador Program at one Metro Nashville Public School per school year. For the 2026-2027 school year, NDOT staff will be coordinating with Hume-Fogg High School as the inaugural school for the program.
