Lakeside Drive (Fulton to Michigan)

Construction is expected to start spring 2027. 

The project will install sidewalks on the west side of Lakeside Drive from Fulton to Michigan Street. This work will require some tree removals. New trees will be planted with the project.

The City has secured permission to put the sidewalk on private property to avoid more tree removals and align with the Dominican Sisters Grand Rapids Master Plan. The City is working with the historic property at 43 Lakeside for approval and is seeking a de minimus impact finding under Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966.

This will fill in the gap in the sidewalk network and provide transportation choices for people. The sidewalks will be installed on City property.

After the project is complete, property owners are required to:

• Clear sidewalks within 24 hours from the time it stops snowing. 
• Maintain the parkway. The parkway is the area between the sidewalks and road.
