Park Impact Information and Map

Pete Crivaro Park is a 12.3-acre park owned by the City of Des Moines. The Park is open to the public and offers a variety of amenities including, a basketball court, splash pad, playground, shelters, disc golf, and access to the John Pat Dorrian Trail. The Iowa DOT would acquire approximately 0.75 acres of temporary easement and approximately 0.15 acres of permanent easement within Pete Crivaro Park.

The impacted area consists of green space and may include clearing of a few trees. No other amenities provided by Pete Crivaro Park will be impacted. Impacts to the green space will include grading and closure of the impacted area during construction. Pete Crivaro Park has been determined to be a Section 4(f) resource, and the project is expected to have a de minimis impact on the property.

Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966 was enacted as a means of protecting publicly owned parks, recreation areas, and wildlife/waterfowl refuges, as well as historic sites of local, state, or national significance from conversion to transportation uses.

De minimis impacts are defined as those that, after consideration of any measure(s) to minimize harm (such as avoidance, minimization, mitigation, or enhancement measures), do not adversely affect the activities, features, and attributes of the Section 4(f) resource.

Comments from the public are only being solicited for impacts to Pete Crivaro Park, not the overall project.
