{"id":219522,"date":"2023-03-31T10:45:19","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T14:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/publicinput.com\/wp\/?p=219522"},"modified":"2025-12-22T23:27:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T15:27:08","slug":"clark-county-nevada-expands-reach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/publicinput.com\/wp\/2023\/03\/31\/clark-county-nevada-expands-reach\/","title":{"rendered":"How Clark County, NV Uses PublicInput to Expand Their Community Engagement Reach"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"219522\" class=\"elementor elementor-219522\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2e5dd2c6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"2e5dd2c6\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-104c3a94 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"104c3a94\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Clark County, Nevada is the most populous county in the state.\u00a0 With jurisdiction over the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and covering a land area the size of New Jersey, Clark County is the nation\u2019s 11th-largest county with a population of more than 2.3 million residents.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><br \/>Unlike other U.S. counties that report a primarily rural population, most of the county\u2019s population resides in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area.\u00a0 As a result many of the demographic characteristics of Clark county are reflective of a more urban environment.<br \/><br \/>Equity-based population highlights:<\/p><ul><li>33.7% report speaking a language other than English<\/li><li>15% of people are living in poverty (2021 ACS national poverty rate is 12.8%)<\/li><li>30.41% report being of Hispanic ethnicity<\/li><li>20.57% identify as a minority\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><h2><strong>The Citizen Engagement Challenge<\/strong><\/h2><h3>To increase engagement with a consistent and predictable approach<\/h3><p>Clark County provides extensive regional services to the more than 2.3 million citizens and an average of more than 45 million visitors a year.\u00a0 As a dynamic and innovative organization, Clark County is dedicated to providing top-quality service with integrity, respect and accountability.\u00a0<br \/><br \/>Charged with developing Clark County\u2019s first-ever sustainability and climate action plan, the Department of Environment and Sustainability (DES) made strategic use of a consultant firm,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kimlundgrenassociates.com\/\">Kim Lundgren Associates<\/a>\u00a0(KLA). By acquiring KLA\u2019s services, DES added internal capacity and support in creating the sustainability and climate action plan.<br \/><br \/>Consultants and county staff were facing a challenge; they needed to find a way to engage more community members on a regular basis.\u00a0 Their strategy was to grow and maintain engagement over time using consistent, predictable engagement.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><h2><b>Increased Community Engagement Powered by PublicInput<\/b><\/h2><p>Using the PublicInput platform, the county team created a micro-site to serve as the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/publicinput.com\/Portal\/Q2281\">online home for the Department of Environment and Sustainability\u2019s outreach and listening efforts.<\/a>\u201d \/><br \/>Using a mixed-mode approach, residents can choose the engagement method that works best for them, whether it is via email, online participation, SMS\/text, or in-person formats. <br \/><br \/>From an administrative view, the consultant team and county staff were able to effectively monitor and manage engagement from all these sources from one unified location via the PublicInput efforts the Clark County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/allinclarkcounty.com\/all-in-clark-county\">All-In Community Sustainability &amp; Climate Action Plan<\/a>\u00a0establishing Clark County as a strong climate leader for communities in their state, region, and beyond.<br \/><br \/>With a consistent and predictable approach, the department
