I-71 Smartlane Project (FRA-71-19.10, PID: 109164)
This project proposes to install a SmartLane in each direction on I-71 between I-670 and I-270 North. A SmartLane is a traffic management solution that uses the existing shoulder as an additional lane of travel during periods of heavy congestion. When it's not needed, the SmartLane closes for use by law enforcement, emergency responders, and maintenance crews. The project goal is to improve safety and ease congestion. The proposed project will also resurface travel lanes and improve numerous bridges along the corridor.
