Shuffletown Park Improvements

Shuffletown Park is an existing 54-acre Mecklenburg County Park located at 9530 Bellhaven Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28216. The park includes ball fields, a playground, dog park, picnic shelter, sand volleyball courts, public art, parking, and restrooms. The park is the site of the former Shuffletown Dragway, a drag racing track that was built in 1958.

This Improvement project will:

  1. Add a new sprayground.
  2. Add a new skate park.
  3. Add a new basketball court.
  4. Replace the existing playground.
  5. The scope of this project may also include repairs/expansion of existing paved trails, wayfinding, and/or improvements to the parking area and restroom.

Thank you for joining Mecklenburg County Staff at Shuffletown Park for two drop-in public meetings to review concepts for these park improvements on Thursday, April 10, 2025 and Saturday, April 12, 2025. The consultant team has incorporated your feedback into a final proposed design. Please see the proposed park concept and skate park design below. Our design team is working through the final design and permitting, with a goal of beginning construction later this Fall.

Proposed Park Improvements (January 2026)

The proposed park improvements are largely based on the "Concept #1" that was shared in 2025. The proposed playground replacement, new sprayground, and new shelter are proposed to be located west of the parking lot at the location of the second baseball field, which will be removed. This concept allows the outfield area to continue to be used for soccer and other field sports, while the remaining southern baseball field will remain untouched. The skate park and basketball court are proposed to be located near the sand volleyball courts, where the current playground exists. Please also see below and in the skate park tab for more information about the proposed skate park design.  Our design team is working through the final design and permitting, with a goal of beginning construction later this Fall.

Proposed Skate Park

The proposed skate park at Shuffletown Park was inspired by the Shuffletown Dragway, while providing multiple skate elements, including: a bowl, mini ramp, banked hip, quarterpipe, down ledge, down rail, rainbow rail, grind ledge, slappy curb, rollover, grind rail, and more.
