Transportation, Innovation, and Mobility for Everyone!

Transportation, land use, and funding are important challenges in our region. By 2045, our region will have millions more people living and working here. Our counties would like your input on three growth scenarios. Individual elements of each scenario may be combined into a final regional plan. It will take a combination of investments to move people around our region, both today and in the future.

What is a Comprehensive Transportation Plan?

A Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) represents a community’s long-term vision for how the local transportation network should evolve to serve residents and employers in a growing region, in an effort to support anticipated community growth and development. A CTP assesses the condition of the entire transportation network and serves as the framework for transportation planning efforts at the local and regional scale.

The Comprehensive Transportation Plan or CTP is a long range plan, that was developed and is continually updated through a collaborative process among residents and town and city officials to envision future transportation needs.  It contains big ideas for what is possible and is all encompassing and comprehensive. The CTP outlines future improvements for the entire transportation network, from roadways and transit to bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. It provides the foundation for what will become the transportation priorities over the next 50+ years.

The information in the CTP will help define expectations when the MPO is working with the state DOT on project designs.

The MPO's Metropolitan Transportation Plan, which focuses on a more near-term horizon, will draw from the CTP for potential projects.

The CTP maps and supporting documentation will be used to track historical information about the transportation network.

The CTP will also serve as a source of information to ensure that future projects reflect the community’s transportation vision.
