FOUNTAINDALE SANITARY SEWER CLEANOUT INSTALLATIONS
FOUNTAINDALE SANITARY SEWER CLEANOUT INSTALLATIONS
The Division of Water and Sewer Utilities (“DWSU”) owns and maintains the public sanitary sewer system in Fountaindale (North and South). In a typical sanitary sewer system, the pipe connecting each building or home to the public sewer main is referred to as a lateral. Please see illustration below for example. A portion of the lateral is either publicly or privately owned and maintained. Typically, the public portion of the lateral is from the main line to the property line, public road right-of-way line, or easement line, up to but not including a cleanout that is set approximately 12 inches inside the property line. The cleanout enables the County access for routine maintenance and cleaning of the public portion of the lateral. Although the County took over this system in 1983, it had previously been in operation for many years by a private company, and a cleanout does not exist for many properties in Fountaindale. Therefore, as part of DWSU’s capital improvement program (CIP) project, cleanouts will be installed, at no cost to the property owner(s), to certain properties in Fountaindale that do not have standard cleanouts.
