Michigan Street Resurfacing
Michigan Street Resurfacing
In 2014, Grand Rapids voters established the Vital Streets fund. This fund dedicates its focus to improving our street conditions. The Michigan Street project from Fuller to Maryland is funded by Vital Streets. This project is expected to begin in 2028.
Michigan Street (Fuller to Maryland)
Construction is expected to start in 2028.
This is a resurfacing project. Contractors will replace the road and upgrade what is listed below:
Michigan (Fuller to Alten): the project will move curbs to narrow the street from two lanes in each direction and a continuous center turn lane to one lane in each direction with a continuous center turn lane. This will include wider sidewalks on the south side of the street.
Michigan (Alten to Plymouth): the project will change the pavement markings from two lanes in each direction and a continuous center turn lane to one lane in each direction with a continuous center turn lane. The leftover space will be used to install buffered bicycle lanes.
Michigan (Plymouth to Maryland): the project will return the street to existing layout. The project will also make improvements to the storm sewer system and ditches along the street.
