Public Safety Building Roof Replacement
Public Safety Building Roof Replacement
Capital improvement Project Number: FA1702
The replacement of the Public Safety Building roof is part of the Citywide Roof Repairs and Replacement CIP.
Project Need
The Public Safety Building roof was installed in 1998. An inspection of the roof in 2022 revealed that it is in major need of replacement.
Project Background
From the 2022 inspection: The entire roof is showing major signs of bare felts meaning that the roof system has deteriorated enough that the only protection it currently holds is the felt itself which is not a proper layer of protection. Furthermore, there are blisters and air pockets underneath the roofing ply leading to the roof system no longer being properly adhered to the substrate. The brown mineralized granules are the protection from the sun; once they start to wear off the roof system is left exposed to UV deterioration which can severely damage the roof and over time drastically cut the life expectancy of the roof. This roof needs to be replaced within the year to avoid any interior damage.
Project Goals
1. Remove all roofing to the structural deck. Inspect for any dry rot or damage. Replace as needed.
2. Mechanically attach tapered polyisocyanurate insulation and 1/2" wood fiber cover board per manufacturer's ASCE 7-05 wind uplift calculated pattern.
3. Raise curb heights to meet current building code.
4. Install Stressbase 80 in hot asphalt.
5. Install StressPly Plus FR Mineral in hot asphalt.
6. Install Stressbase 80 flashing ply and StressPly Plus FR Mineral flashing ply in hot.
7. Apply two coats of Title 24 bright white Pyramic Plus LO
8. Install ANSI SPRI ES-1 tested 24 ga. galv. edge metal and coping cap.
9. Install lead jacks at all penetrations.
Project Funding
The project is funded by the Measure S-Fund, Growth Impact Fund and the Public Facilities Fund. It is an established Capital Improvement Project # FA1702 "Citywide Roof Repairs and Replacement".
