McDowell Creek Greenway Connection to Stratford Forest Neighborhood

This funding will be used to develop a new and accessible bicycle/pedestrian point of access to McDowell Creek Greenway from the Stratford Forest neighborhood. 

Improved access is proposed at the following existing facilities:
•  Colonel Francis Beatty Park
•  Four Mile Creek Greenway
•  Idlewild Park
•  Kilborne Park
•  Little Sugar Creek Greenway
•  McDowell Creek Greenway
•  Nevin Park
•  Renaissance Park
•  Westerly Hills Park
•  Winterfield Park
•  Matching funds for a bicycle/pedestrian accommodations on the Wilkinson Boulevard/Highway 74 bridge replacement over the Catawba River.

Project Description

An access trail from McDowell Creek Greenway, between Westmoreland Road and Sam Furr Road, will connect the greenway to the Stratford Forest neighborhood. A bridge will be provided. The project is funded.  Design has been initiated. There will be a public information session at a time to be determined.

The project will be funded in County Fiscal Year 2026, with funding available July 1, 2025.  Design will be initiated after funding is in place. There will be a public information session at a time to be determined.
