16th Avenue SW Pedestrian Safety Improvements & Traffic Calming Project
16th Avenue SW Pedestrian Safety Improvements & Traffic Calming Project
Welcome!
King County is finalizing the design for an important pedestrian safety and traffic calming project. We have two updated design options to share with you. The main difference between the 2022 conceptual designs and the 2024 updated designs is the number of on-street parking spaces. Option 1 has bike lanes. Option 2 has no bike lanes.
Today, there are 43 on-street parking spaces in the project area on 16th Avenue SW between SW 100th and SW 107th streets and no bike lanes. We previously stated that there were 34 on-street parking spaces, which was incorrect.
Which road design best meets the needs of your community?
Both options improve safety and add more on-street parking than what is available today on 16th Ave. SW between SW 100th St. and SW 107th St.
Please review the two updated road design options shown below and make your selection. The survey will be open until 5 p.m. Friday, July 31 Thursday, August 7, 2024.(date updated 07/26/24)
Today, there are 43 on-street parking spaces north of SW 106th Street, no bicycle lanes, and no traffic calming improvements.
Option 2 – No bicycle lanes and more parking spots
No bicycle lanes:
- People riding bicycles and scooters must share the lane with cars and trucks, as they do today.
On-street parking:
- The 2024 updated design includes 67 on-street spaces, more parking access to restaurants and shops than there is today.
Option 1 - Bicycle lanes
Bicycle lanes:
- People on bikes and scooters have their own lane, so are much less likely to get struck by a car.
- People drive slower when there are bike lanes. Slower traffic makes it much safer for pedestrians to cross the street .
On-street parking:
- The 2024 updated design includes 46 on-street spaces.
