The City of Austin updates the technical codes in accordance with the International Code Council (ICC) and International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) code cycle schedules. The International Codes are the most trusted source of model codes and standards.

Engagement Opportunities
DSD and two of its partner departments are preparing for the adoption of 2024 Technical Codes later this year. Stakeholder engagement is underway for updates to the International Building and Swimming Pool and Spa codes. In May, DSD, Austin Energy, and Austin Fire plan to share proposed amendments to the International Residential, Property Maintenance, Energy Conservation, Fire, and Wildland-Urban Interface codes (ICC), as well as the Uniform Mechanical and Plumbing codes (IAPMO). These codes, along with any needed local amendments, will be reviewed by the Austin City Council prior to adoption.

The public input period for this code will be March 20 - April 26, 2024. The Austin City Council will review the proposed changes prior to adoption.
International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) (2024 Amendments)
The public input period for this code is tentatively planned for May 15 - June 15, 2024. The Austin City Council will review the proposed changes prior to adoption.
International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) (2024 Amendments)
