Building Safety Month Highlights Town Building Inspections and Permitting
To help keep our homes and other structures safe, Town of Apex building inspectors take (and are tested on) up to 464 hours of instruction involving Building, Electrical, Fire, Mechanical, and Plumbing Standards.
Does your home project require a permit from the town? When in doubt - reach out!
Permits are required in most typical construction projects including (but not limited to): room additions, decks, roofs over decks, swimming pools, finishing basements, bonus rooms and attics, lawn irrigation systems and accessory buildings. All installations or modifications to electrical, plumbing, or heating or air conditioning systems also require a permit. Learn more: https://www.apexnc.org/faq.aspx?TID=16

Budget Public Hearing to be Held May 24th
Building the Town of Apex’s annual operating budget and five-year Capital Improvement Plan is a collaborative process between the public, departments, administration and the Town Council. The annual operating budget gives Apex town officials the authority to collect revenue and make expenditures, depending on the priorities of the council, community, and staff.
Although we receive and evaluate feedback on budget items all year long, a public hearing dedicated to this topic is held each year prior to the final budget adoption by Town Council. Get familiar with the full budget document; a draft will be published online and available in the Town Clerk's office no later than May 13th. Provide your feedback during the May 24th public hearing or by email at annual.budget@apexnc.org. Learn more: www.apexnc.org/budget
Get Involved in the Budget Process
Hearing from residents, businesses, organizations and the community at large is critical to creating the Town’s budget. There are multiple ways to participate and make your voice heard.
- Complete the Community Budget Priorities Survey (typically between December and February).
- Attend the budget public hearing (May 24th).
- Review a copy of the proposed budget on the Town’s website and send comments or questions to annual.budget@apexnc.org. Staff will respond to questions and report feedback to Town Council and Administration.
- Attend or watch Town Council meetings online to stay informed.
- Attend community meetings about the budget.

Greenway Construction: Apex West Greenway
When constructed, Apex West Greenway will include 700 linear feet of asphalt and concrete trail, with a small section of boardwalk. This project will provide a safe connection to the American Tobacco Trail (ATT) at the location of a future Wake County ATT trailhead along Olive Chapel Road. Wake County is funding $150,000, or 49%, of the trail construction costs. We hope to see construction on this project begin in the summer of 2022, and it should take about 180 days to complete. Road Rehabilitation Projects Continue
Apex evaluates street conditions every three years, with the goals of maintaining roadway conditions at the lowest cost, and providing a safe and reliable transportation system. Work continues in the neighborhoods that have been prioritized for this year’s road rehabilitation schedule. The 2021 Streets and Sidewalks Bond included $5 million to address a current backlog of repairs and resurfacing to extend the life of our roadways and save future dollars.
GoApex Route 1 to Provide Free Bus Service
This summer, you’ll be able to reach the Peak through our new FREE bus service! GoApex Route 1 is the first fixed-route local bus service in town, and includes 40 bus stop locations with hourly service frequency. The Town has secured grants to fully cover costs for the construction of bus stops and amenities, and half the costs to operate the bus service. You may soon see construction of bus stops around town, mostly consisting of signage and concrete pad installations. Learn more: www.apexnc.org/goapex

Hidden Gem: Free Mulched Tree Limbs
As part of our tree trimming program that keeps tree limbs off of electric lines, limbs are chipped into mulching material and placed curbside at our Public Works facility. The mulch is available to the public for FREE! Stop by 105 Upchurch Street and take as much as you like, any time you like – you just have to load the material into your own vehicle.
