Lineworker Appreciation Day is April 18th
If you live or work in Apex, you most likely receive your power from the award-winning Town of Apex Electric Utilities Department. On National Lineworker Appreciation Day, we take a moment to show our gratitude to the men and women of the department who keep our electricity flowing, and respond to power outages even in the most extreme weather conditions!
Congratulations to the department for receiving the Public Power Award of Excellence in the area of Continuous Improvement! This award recognizes cities and towns that constantly review and enhance all aspects of public power while focusing on cost reduction and increased efficiencies in current and future operations. The department was also just awarded the National Certificate of Excellence in Reliability by the American Public Power Association.
Did you know? You can report an outage and receive notifications of power restoration through our mobile app! Learn more…

Sidewalk Construction: E. Williams Street
This sidewalk fills a gap on the east side of NC 55 (E. Williams Street) and along Bobbit Road from Sunset Lake Road northward. The purpose of this project is to provide a pedestrian route and improve connectivity in an area with heavy pedestrian use and activity centers. See the project map.
Sidewalk Construction: Kelly Road & Apex Barbecue Road
An asphalt multi-use path is under construction on the south side of Apex Barbecue Road from Kelly Road to Scotts Ridge Elementary School, including modifications to the bridge over NC 540 to add a concrete barrier between the pedestrian path and the roadway. A concrete sidewalk is being constructed on the east side of Kelly Road from Beaver Trail to Apex Barbecue Road. See the project map.

LED Streetlight Changeover
The Town of Apex Electric Utilities Department is replacing over 6,700 streetlights throughout town from high-pressure sodium streetlights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures and bulbs. This phased program will last approximately two years.
Learn more about the benefits of this project, and view the project map!
Park Maintenance: Apex Nature Park
Tennis and pickleball courts at Apex Nature Park will be resurfaced beginning the week of April 18th. This work is anticipated to take about 3 weeks, depending on weather. Once work begins, the courts will remain closed until the project is complete.
This is a great time to check out the courts at our other parks!
Park Construction: Pleasant Park
This 92-acre project continues to develop with final touches being added to the multi-purpose turf fields, and installation of equipment in our “Enchanted Forest” play area. Utility work is nearly completed along with sports field lights, scoreboards, fencing, and retaining walls.
Pleasant Park is designed to provide facilities for all ages and abilities. This project will include active and passive recreation areas, including six multi-purpose fields and four baseball/softball fields; 4 tennis, 6 pickleball, 2 basketball, and 1 sand volleyball court(s); two field houses with restrooms and concessions; and a cross country course. The project is primarily funded by the 2017 Parks Bond. Learn more about this premiere park!

Queen Bees Arrive in Apex
Four of our employees are certified beekeepers in their spare time, with one more working to get his certification. In a project led by our Electric Utilities Department, town staff installed three bee hives in an electric easement that has been studied for biodiversity. As a result of that study, the town will remove invasive plants and replace them with species that promote native pollinators. We look forward to expanding this program further in years to come!
Apex is one of only 21 other North Carolina municipalities who have received Bee City USA status! The Bee City USA program endorses a set of commitments for creating sustainable habitats for native pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet.
