The BRTB has a $4 billion transportation plan and we want to know what you think

$4 BILLION TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM AND AIR QUALITY REPORT OPEN FOR COMMENT

The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) has launched a coment period for its draft 2023-2026 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which includes $4.26 billion in proposed funding for highway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian projects over the next four years. There is also an associated Air Quality Conformity Determination. Members of the public are invited to review and comment between now and Monday, August 1.

As the metropolitan planning organization for the Baltimore region, the BRTB releases an annual TIP to help coordinate investments in transportation throughout Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Queen Anne’s Counties, as well as Baltimore City. This year’s draft TIP includes 132 projects, 7 of which are new.

Returning this year is an interactive project map, in which the public can view projects and offer comments. Staff have also created an interactive story map to offer the public an easy way to learn more about these plans.

Transportation CORE (Community Outreach and Regional Engagement)

BRTB SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FROM CARROLL, HARFORD, AND QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY FOR TRANSPORTATION CORE

The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB), as the metropolitan planning organization for the Baltimore region, seeks volunteers to serve on a newly formed group, Transportation CORE (Community Outreach and Regional Engagement).

Key goals of the Transportation CORE are:

  • To provide opportunities for various interested parties to have input on how the BRTB approaches project planning, prioritization of projects and initiatives, and public involvement.
  • To expand our reach beyond BRTB committees and long-time partners to make sure that rural, suburban and urban communities as well as business interests from across the Baltimore region are represented.
  • To bring new and emerging concerns and issues to BRTB/BMC’s attention by members who will also serve as local “eyes and ears” about transportation throughout the region.

Volunteers are still needed from Carroll, Harford, and Queen Anne’s counties.

Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis.  Visit baltometro.org to learn more.

Resilience 2050 White Papers

BRTB PUBLISHES FIFTH EDUCATIONAL WHITE PAPER

The BRTB is engaged in a planning process for Resilience 2050: Adapting to the Challenges of Tomorrow, the next long-range transportation plan (LRTP) for the Baltimore region.

As part of this process, the BRTB is developing a series of educational white papers and surveys to share with the public on a range of topics related to the long-range transportation plan.

The white papers are an exciting tool that aim to improve the review process as they introduce and update the public on the LRTP over time and by topic, providing exposure prior to release of the draft of Resilience 2050 in spring 2023.

Along with each white paper, the public will be asked to share their thoughts through a project website at publicinput.com/resilience2050whitepapers. This allows the BRTB to hear thoughts and ideas about Resilience 2050 while it is still in development, which is a more impactful time for consideration and inclusion of relevant feedback.

The latest white paper is on air quality,

Resilience 2050 Air Quality White PaperAir Quality in the Baltimore Region

In 1967, Baltimore had some of the dirtiest air in the country. Find out where we stand today and how we’ll continue to improve air quality in the coming decades in our latest white paper.

Previous papers cover the topics of:

  • Transit
  • Freight Movement
  • Traffic Safety
  • Resilience 2050 Project Scoring

Once you read the white papers, email us your thoughts at resilience2050whitepapers@PublicInput.com, leave us a voicemail at 855-925-2801 x 9090, or take our survey online.

Additional white papers will be released this summer and fall, where we'll be exploring: Active Transportation; socioeconomic forecasting and demographic trends; emerging technologies; and more!
