Updates on Patton Ave. Projects
Below are project updates for the Patton Ave. Corridor:
College and Patton Improvements Project rescheduled in light of economic recovery
The College and Patton Improvements Project includes pedestrian ramp improvements, resurfacing and striping of streets with new configurations including bike lanes, and replacement of signal poles on College Street and Patton Avenue in the core of downtown. Construction was estimated to start in 2025. In an effort to support economic recovery and minimize disruption in the upcoming year, this project will not begin before 2026.

Sidewalk and lane closure near Thirsty Monk beginning December 16
Next Monday, December 16, 2024, crews will resume work on the final section of the Patton Avenue Sidewalk Accessibility Project. The remaining work will take place in front of 92 Patton Ave and will require both a sidewalk closure and a lane closure, see below. Work will occur Monday through Friday, with the work zone removed for the weekend.
Lane Closures through the end of the year
Carter Street will continue to be closed to thru traffic until the end of the year. The current three lane closure on Patton Ave will also remain, see map below. The contractor is working hard to open the lane closures on Patton Ave. before the holidays, but it may not be feasible.
Daytime lane Closure beginning in January 2025
In January 2025, a new traffic pattern will be in place on Patton Ave. There will be one eastbound lane on Patton Ave. between Clingman Ave. and N. Ann Street. See map below:
As with any construction project, work can be impacted by weather, causing additional delays.
While we understand the inconvenience this lane closure may cause, drivers are encouraged to consider using I-240 or explore other available alternate routes to navigate downtown efficiently. If an emergency arises in these locations, we will make every attempt to assist emergency personnel with access.
As we move ahead, we will continue to prioritize minimal disruption to the surrounding area and maintain our commitment to timely project updates. If you have any questions or specific concerns regarding work, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your patience and support as we complete this essential work.
