I am writing to provide you with an important update regarding the ongoing Carter-Ann-Patton Stormwater Improvement project.
Overnight street closures in downtown Patton Avenue area scheduled for Monday, June 17
Due to an unexpected utility discovery during the ongoing Carter-Ann-Patton stormwater project, a portion of Patton Avenue and connecting streets will be closed the night of Monday, June 17 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Work will be carried out overnight to minimize disruption to area businesses and residents.
To ensure crew and community safety, the following street sections will be fully closed:
- Patton Avenue from Otis Street to Clingman Avenue
- North French Broad Avenue from Patton Avenue to Otis Street
- South French Broad Avenue from Patton Avenue to Hilliard Avenue
The following street sections will be closed to through traffic (open only for business and resident access):
- Carter Street from Patton Avenue to Haywood Street
- North Ann Street from Patton Avenue to Haywood Street
- South Ann Street from Patton Avenue to Pearl Street
As with any construction project, work can be impacted by weather and can cause additional delays. Detour signs will be posted at Otis Street and Clingman Avenue. See the map below of the detour area.
The June 17 overnight closure will be the first of what is expected to be three total overnight closures. Additional future closure dates will be determined and communicated when available.
Additional project updates:
The stormwater and sidewalk construction on Patton Ave near Clingman Ave regular ART service has resumed at the Patton/Clingman bus shelter.
Construction near French Broad Ave. began June 10. The potable water system adjustment on Patton Ave. between Carter St. and French Broad Ave. is expected to continue throughout the month of June and involves working through utility issues that require the June 17 overnight closure. Crews will continue sidewalk reconstruction along the north side of Patton Ave. during this phase between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays.
Daytime traffic impacts
- A lane closure will be implemented to shift westbound traffic to the south side of Patton Ave.
- A single lane in each direction will remain open, and Patton Ave. traffic will not be detoured for this phase of construction.
- The south end of Carter St. will be closed for this phase of construction.
Pedestrian impacts
Ongoing reconstruction of the sidewalk along Patton Ave. will continue for the remainder of the project.
As the City undertakes making improvements to the area, we ask for your patience and caution as you may encounter large equipment and other construction related impacts. The City of Asheville will continue to update this page as work progresses.
