Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center Phase 2 Improvements Project Update

 

Please see the information below for the latest updates on progress, photos, and announcements:

  • Concrete slabs for first and second floors have been poured.
  • The retaining wall from construction and concrete pours will continue.
  • Software integration and smart controls are being programmed for the new air conditioning system.
  • Wall framing is underway for the new additions and renovated areas.
  • Mechanical ducts, electrical conduits, and plumbing lines are being installed in the new additions.
  • Steel erection for the shade structure in the zocalo is in progress.
  • Waterproofing of the new additions' exteriors is ongoing and will continue into next month.
  • Exterior brick will be laid starting next month.

Our MACC resident, "Taco", has found a loving, adoptive family.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • City Council has approved artists Katherine Telley and Ruben Esquivel to design and fabricate artwork for the EST MACC Phase 2, Art in Public Places (AIPP) Project. More announcements regarding the planned community engagement for this project can be found at the AIPP website here.
  • Concrete pours and steel deliveries will continue. Work hours will adhere to the City’s noise ordinance. Ordinance information can be found here.
  • The Confluence, a separate public/private partnership project, has increased activities at the MACC, as the parking lot is the construction access point. Additional information on The Confluence can be found here.

SCHEDULED MILESTONES

  • Construction began – August 28, 2023
  • Anticipated completion of all major construction activity – Summer 2025
  • Anticipated grand opening – Fall 2025

 

Please note that as with any construction project, schedules are projected as accurately as possible, and all dates are subject to change due to the nature of construction and weather.

 

This is an active construction site. For the safety of the public, unauthorized entry is not permitted.
